Hip Replacement

Total hip replacement surgery can offer a significant improvement in your quality of life.

Total hip replacement surgery is known as one of the medical procedures that provides the greatest improvement of quality of life for the money. A total hip replacement is appropriate for patients with damaged hip joints that require complete reconstruction.

While many surgeons perform conventional hip replacement surgeries, Orthopedic International specializes in advanced techniques that stand apart from the rest, because they are non-invasive and offer patients faster healing and more mobility.

Alternative Bearing Surfaces

In the past, most hip replacements have used a metal ball articulating with a plastic socket. Now with this new technique, ceramics and a new polyethylene allow more active patients to move more flexibly and smoothly.

Natural Ball Diameter Hips

Historically, surgeons used small, femoral head ball diameters because they moved more freely and provided thicker socket material to weather wear and tear. Today, we prefer a more natural ball diameter, which provides patients a more comfortable feel and dramatically reduces the chance of dislocation. Fewer than 1% of our patients experience dislocation after surgery, compared to up to 5% on average post-operation.

Alternative Surgical Approaches

We generally use more contemporary approaches, such as posterior, anterior and anterolateral, to enter the hip joint for surgery. Because of our experienced techniques and advanced instrumentation, we can help improve your recovery and outcome.

Orthopedics International – pioneers in total hip replacement surgery

Four decades ago, Orthopedic International surgeons Dr. Ernie Burgess and Dr. Bob Romano performed the first successful total hip replacement surgery in the Northwest region of the United States. Since then, Orthopedics International has been a leader in patient care, implant design and innovation in total hip replacement surgery. We use the latest techniques and implants and are pioneers in the field of implant technology.
