Minimally Invasive Shoulder Surgery

Arthroscopy reduces pain, stiffness and the chance of infection after shoulder surgery.

Minimally invasive shoulder surgery is the future. As with knee surgery and gall bladder surgery today, we expect in five to 10 years, very few surgeons will be performing common shoulder procedures using open techniques.

At ShoulderWorks, we offer our patients the latest in arthroscopic (minimally invasive) shoulder techniques.

In shoulder arthroscopy, the surgeon uses a small lens, called an arthroscope, to visualize the inside of the shoulder. The arthroscope can be placed virtually anywhere allowing easy access to tight spaces using tiny incisions.

Unlike open surgery, the surgeon is not limited by the size of the incision. Modern arthroscopes display images on a LCD monitor in HD quality and magnify the view so that objects appear bigger than they actually are. This gives the surgeon the feel of using a microscope without actually looking through one!

The surgeon does all of this while flushing water through the joint. The water helps to keep the pictures clear while the surgeon operates. This has the added benefit of decreasing infection rates in shoulder surgery.

Other benefits of shoulder arthroscopy include:

  • Decreased pain from surgery
  • Decreased incidences of stiffness after surgery
  • Decreased blood loss
  • Faster rehabilitation compared to open surgery

At ShoulderWorks, you can experience the benefits of minimally invasive shoulder surgery today.
